Black Holes at Different Flavours

WE Heraeus-EAS Early Career Researchers in Astronomy Workshop

21 Sep - 25 Sep 2026

Where:

Nicolaus Copernicus Astronomical Center, Warsaw, Poland

Scientific organizers:

Prof. Dr. Agata Różańska, Nicolaus Copernicus Astronomical Center, Warzaw, Poland  • Prof. Dr. Andreas Burkert, LMU München

"HERA 2026 – Black Holes at Different Flavours" brings together early career researchers and leading experts to explore the rich and evolving landscape of black hole physics. From theoretical foundations to cutting-edge observations, the workshop creates a space for deep discussion, fresh ideas, and new collaborations.

With speakers including Roger Blandford, Monika Mościbrodzka, Vladimir Karas, Samaya Nissanke, and Marek Abramowicz, participants will have a unique opportunity to engage directly with researchers who shape our understanding of accretion physics, relativistic jets, gravitational waves, and strong-gravity astrophysics.

Join us for a week of scientific intensity, open discussion, and inspiration — where the next generation of black hole research begins.

This workshop series, organized by the European Astronomical Society - EAS and supported by the Wilhelm and Else Heraeus Foundation, aims to provide young researchers with a stimulating environment to broaden their perspectives, foster collaborations, and develop essential soft skills.

The EAS extends an invitation to early-career scientists, defined as those with less than 5 years of post-PhD experience - including PhD students who are close to defending their theses, and who are affiliated with European Research Institutes and Universities, to submit their applications. We especially encourage researchers in the fields of galaxy formation and evolution in the early Universe to apply. It is important to note that there is no registration fee, and the WE Heraeus Foundation will cover the local expenses for all participants.
