The Ernst Ruska Center for Microscopy and Spectroscopy with Electrons (ER-C) has played a leading role in developing and disseminating electron holography. Despite its strong scientific impact, the technique is practiced by a small, highly specialized community with limited opportunities for focused exchange. The last international workshop dedicated to electron holography took place in 2018, highlighting the need for renewed community engagement.
The proposed ECHO (EleCtron Holography in Optics) workshop will bring together leading experts and early-career researchers of electron holography, as well as perspectives from the emerging field of X-ray holography. The program will combine invited lectures, contributed presentations, hands-on training, live microscope sessions, and phase reconstruction tutorials. Hosting the workshop at ER-C enables the practical sessions on the microscopes. By lowering barriers to entry and
strengthening cross-community dialogue, the workshop will foster the next generation of researchers and stimulate innovation in quantitative phase imaging.
