In response to the increased interest in quantum technology, the summer school will explore some of the most relevant topics in quantum communication, information, and computation.
The course will focus on the properties of quantum systems, ranging from on-chip to long-distance applications. Particular attention will be given to experiments performed outside controlled lab environments as well as technological and scientific breakthrough that will impact science and industry. High-level speakers will discuss the fundamental requirements
for on-chip quantum computing, as well as long-distance quantum communications (such as quantum networks) and purely non-classical phenomena such as entanglement exchange and teleportation. Fabrication techniques, challenges and opportunities will be closely examined, with a focus on semiconductor quantum dot structures, parametric conversion sources and NV centers.
The proposed program will provide PhD students with an in-depth overview of cutting-edge quantum technology, experiments and protocols that represent the hottest topics in current research and technology transfer. Speakers from different fields of quantum physics will provide a wide range of topics and stimulate open discussions on the pros and cons.
The scope of the school we are proposing will be to bring the attendants up to date with the state-of-the-art in quantum technologies and photon-based quantum technologies in particular.
The school is addressed in particular to PhD students and post-docs in Physics, Engineering and Mathematics with the aim of giving a solid understanding of the opportunities, difficulties and nuances that the generation and manipulation of entanglement entails. Aside from the frontal lectures, the school will foster the exchange of ideas between the attendants and the invited speakers, all top experts in their field. This will be facilitated by several poster sessions during the school and by the social time spent together by attendees and speakers.
