The Green’s Function Approach to Multiple Scattering Theory in Electronic Structure and Spectroscopies

Les Houches - WE-Heraeus Physics School

30 Aug - 10 Sep 2021

Where:

École de Physique des Houches, Les Houches, F

Scientific organizers:

Dr. Didier Sébilleau, U Rennes, France • Prof. Dr. Ján Minár, U West Bohemia, Czech Republic • Prof. Dr. Hubert Ebert, LMU München

The aim of the school is to provide the attendees an introduction to multiple scattering Green’s function methods - a very powerful and fast growing technique that is actively used in various fields of physics. During the school, leading experts in the field will present the mathematical foundations of scattering theory, the basics of multiple scattering in the Green’s function and T-matrix approach as well as computational aspects illustrated by recent applications for electronic structure and spectroscopy calculations. The lectures will be complemented by a hands-on course on various computer codes enabling the attendees to do such type of calculations and this way to perform or accompany their own scientific work. Accordingly, emphasis is given to codes that are available free of 6 charge to the attendees after the school. In addition, the school aims to provide a platform for young students and researchers to get in contact with specialists in the field, to exchange their experience and to present their own scientific work in an informal and stimulating atmosphere. The environment at École de Physique des Houches is an ideal place for this.

The school is first of all addressed to advanced master students (with a recommendation of their advisor), PhD students and post-docs in physics or related fields. As space allows, academics will also be welcome. However, as the preregistrations exceed already now the capacity of the venue, a selection will be made giving priority to female and young students as well as early stage researchers (ESR).
